Story

MELBA Victoria Street was established in 2012 along with the Spark City offices, this was MELBA #4. The theme and aim of the Melba brand has always been to provide excellent coffee, food & service with an up-market touch.

The success of the MELBA brand has been helped by our close relationship with our core suppliers. With specialty coffee supplied by Espresso Workshop roastery in Orakei, bread by Bread & Butter in Grey Lynn & packaging by the team at Innocent Packaging.

MELBA Victoria Street

MELBA Victoria street operates during the weekdays only and is focused on serving the corporates in Auckland CBD. This led us to serving coffee and food from not only meetings in our café to meetings within corporate offices in the form of ‘corporate catering’.

We re-evaluated our catering ethos and set our focus on providing an up-market service to the corporates. We also continued to do the simple things well, such as promptly replying to emails and kept a human touch to the communication with our clients.

The key to our success has had a lot to do with the calibre of our team. The team is led by Shawn who has over 25 years of experience and has been the catering manager for the last 9 years. Other key members of the team include Dhruv (catering co-ordinator) and our full of character head chef Joseph.

The appreciation continued and we soon added Melba Vulcan Lane to our list of cafes. The café already had a wealthy 25 years of legacy behind it, and was also the cafe that formed the MELBA brand.

MELBA Vulcan Lane

Vulcan lane allowed us to expand our catering network to corporates all throughout central Auckland and with us sticking to our mantra of quality and hard-work our client base grew.

The team size quickly grew from 11 to almost double at 20. But like all great things have to come to an end or it may have definitely seemed that way with the arrival of coronavirus. Our business continued to plummet downwards, which ultimately lead to a inevitable full lockdown.

The cafes may have not been in their best shape, but our drive to come out of this was strong as ever. During the lockdown period we continued to work on internal projects such as the website, menu costings, minor refurbishment (Vulcan Lane @ Level 3) and continually kept in contact with our awesome clients.

The team is driven as ever and the show will go on!
